Basically, Solar hot water heater uses the sun’s rays to heat water. By using this smart system, you can save a bunch on power bill.

How do Solar Hot Water Heater works?

Evacuated Tubes have revolutionized the solar industry, now heating water with solar energy is more than a summer option. They are also attachable to your existing hot water cylinder, saving you the cost of a cylinder upgrade. The tubes are evacuated like double glazed windows stopping heat loss out of the system. The water is always well insulated meaning you can gain solar energy in even below zero degree outside temperatures.

Our systems work by capturing the solar UV radiation in an absorbent coating on the outside of the inner glass of the solar tube. This heat is then transferred through the glass through aluminum fins to a heat pipe. The hydrocarbon in the heat pipe is under a vacuum and therefore boils at very low temperatures.

The liquid moves the heat up through the heat pipe to the manifold where it is captured in a heat exchange by the water flowing from the Hot Water Cylinder. The heated water is always insulated and protected from the environment. This is similar to how a wetback operates but with a lot more control.

How much can you save?

How much can you save using solar hot water heater

Hot water is by far the largest part of your power bill every month (averaging 40%). This is the perfect part to limit some costs to your budget. The average Kiwi’s homes will save $102.53 on their power bills monthly. Which means, more than $1,200 per year! Indefinitely, this benefit will be risen every year!

We’re proudly supply and install solar evacuated tubes from Sunshine Solar

Established in 2003, Sunshine Solar is now a family operated business with four full-time staff and over thirty contractors and distributors around the country. All use qualified tradesmen and have been trained and working in the solar industry for several years.

Sunshine Solar is not only experienced in the installation of solar hot water systems for the residential market, our team have been involved in larger projects such as schools, motels, commercial buildings, as well as retrofitting to character homes and heritage buildings needing extensive and careful plumbing, building and electrical preparation. The company have completed work for many large complex million dollar plus homes on both flat and hill sites, consulting closely with leading architects and designers, as well as dream homes on lifestyle blocks, farms and exclusive country lodges and retreats.

For over the past 8 years, Sunshine Solar have operated continuous research and testing programmes with CPIT year round in various NZ conditions. They are currently a part of the solar pilot study for Contact Energy. Results have shown that their evacuated tubes supply up to 85% of your annual hot water heating costs.

New Generation Evacuated Tubes

The evacuated tube system is the most popular type of solar system around the world. It has been around for 20 years and is still going strong. They are very cost effective and show excellent all year round performance. Evacuated tubes have revolutionised the solar industry, now heating water with solar energy is more than just a summer option.

Our solar tubes are a German technology with specifications and design to suit New Zealand conditions. They are very cost effective and show excellent all year round performance. The evacuation of the tube means low conductive and convective heat losses in times of low ambient temperatures and in wind. The tubes are evacuated like double glazed windows stopping heat loss out of the system. The water is always well insulated meaning you can gain solar energy in even below zero degree outside temperatures. More energy is used on heating water in the winter due to colder water temperatures and demands for hotter, longer showers. On cold frosty days when the sun is out they are working for you in heating your water and even pick up energy on cloudy days. The multi-functional controller automatically manages the temperatures on the roof and in your cylinders to give you comfort and peace of mind
